Principal's Corner
A Message from Mr. Jankowski

Dear Ethel Burke Parents/Guardians:

Ethel Burke staff are very excited and eager to greet your children on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 8th. Students in Cohort B will report on this day. Although we realize that this year will certainly be unique, we also know that our students will be receiving a quality education just as it has always been here at the Home of the Penguins!

Please note that there are many new protocols that we have created while revising others in order to meet the demands of our “new normal”. Arrival procedures have been updated for this school year. Doors will open at 8:32 a.m. to accommodate student arrival and students will enter through three different entrances and report to the classroom.  There will be some flexibility with lateness this year given the unusual circumstances. Students must wear face coverings and have their temperature checked prior to entering the building. All children will practice social distancing 6 feet apart following posted signage and sidewalk decals. Please note that the new playground equipment, unfortunately, is not available until further notice. We also kindly request that all parents please speak with your children about proper handwashing procedures while in school.  Students will enter by grade level as follows:

Ø  Kindergarten will enter through Entrance #3

Ø  First & Second Grade will enter through Entrance #4

Ø  Third & Fourth Grade will enter through Entrance #2

Students will exit through the same door used during arrival. Of course, as in past practice, please keep your child home if he/she is sick. Also, if you go out of state, please quarantine for fourteen days if necessary according to state travel restrictions.

As we prepare for this new school year, please understand that administration has worked closely with our teachers to ensure that a safe environment is provided for all students and staff. Parents are reminded that water fountains will be turned off for regular use but students will be able to fill water bottles from the water filling station. Please send in a water bottle with your child’s name on it. Also, please be sure to review the attached document regarding new procedures for visitors.  Those who have chosen the hybrid model of learning will be informed of all safety protocols that have been put into place for the upcoming school year.  Supplies for “remote only” students will be distributed, along with Chromebooks, at Ethel Burke on September 3rd from 10:30-12:00 pm. “Hybrid” students will receive those items on September 8th and 9th during the school day.

All parents should plan to go on the webpage www.bellmawrschools.org and open the parent portal on August 31st  after 9 a.m. to view current class cohort lists. During the school year, be sure to visit my Twitter account and our Ethel Burke website to view pictures of students and their work as we move throughout the school year. I hope that you enjoy the remainder of your summer and we look forward to seeing you and your children on September 8th!

See you soon!
