A Message from Mr. Jankowski

Hey there Burke Penguins, 

It’s hard to believe that the summer is coming to an end! I hope that you have taken time with family and friends to kick back and enjoy that summer breeze. 

As you are all aware by now, it has been a little crazy over here since the fire back on July 3rd.  I truly appreciate everyone’s flexibility and patience, particularly our teachers in third, fourth, and special education, as we all work toward putting our “Home of the Penguins” back together again! Special thanks to Mrs. Calabria and the Bellmawr Park staff for making room for our displaced Penguin staff and students. We both see this as a great way to build a collaborative team approach to teaching and learning and we welcome any ideas that you may have to ease the transition for our students as they make the move to a different school. We believe that this will be a great opportunity to align our instruction, and to build collegiality and strengthen our grade level teams.  

Please keep in mind that the Ethel Burke Kindergarten Orientation will take place here on August 30th at 11:30 am. 

I look forward to your “official” return on Tuesday, September 4th, for our first professional development sessions. The first two days of school for students are Thursday, September 6th and 7th, and both are early dismissal days. The new time for half sessions this year is 1:00 pm. I am sure that you are just as excited as I am to see our wonderful Burke students! 

As usual, I must commend Mr. Cook and his awesome custodial team for all their hard work all summer long. As you can imagine, this summer was especially challenging given all the moves that had to be done due to the fire. Aside from the “construction zone”, the building looks outstanding, inside and out! My partner, Mrs. Mortka, has also done a wonderful job of helping me to prepare for the new year while also searching for a place that has Internet capabilities! 

We will once again be posting all pertinent opening day information on the Sharepoint in the Ethel Burke folder. Please be sure to review everything (I.e. duty/teacher schedules, CPT/PLC information, assessment schedule, first 30 days of data, etc.) prior to our first faculty meeting on September 4th . Be sure to follow the “Temporary Schedules” as we will eventually revert back to the originals. We thank Mrs. Bartley for her hard work in creating these documents. All documents will be reviewed at the opening meeting. 

Self-assessments and PDPs are due Friday, September 7th and SGOs will be due on Friday, September  28th . You should have received Annette’s welcome back letter as well as the PD schedule by email this week. Please be sure to review these documents.
